LIMB KIND FOUNDATION
Robert Schulman is one of only about 7,800 registered prosthetists in the United States. The need for them is great. Thousands of children are born with limb differences in the U.S. each year—many of whose families don’t have the financial means to access prosthetic limbs. In developing countries, access and affordability is even tougher.
Robert founded Limb Kind Foundation with one mission: to allow children in areas of extreme poverty, conflict, and lack of health care to receive prosthetic care.
Limb Kind’s mission takes Robert and his dedicated group of volunteer prosthetists, physical therapists, and amputee mentors across the globe to provide prosthetic limbs to children in need. The support that the kids receive from the physical therapists and mentors is just as important as the limbs themselves. For many, it’s the first time they’re seeing people who look like they do.
Being a prosthetist is about more than creating limbs—it’s about helping to shape stories. In this gallery, you’ll find visual stories of children in Haiti, the Philippines, Ethiopia, and Kenya whose prostheses have given them the gift of greater mobility and functionality.
